Some pictures from the Liberty Bowl

These are some pictures Dean, Cindy and I took at the Liberty Bowl. There are some really good ones of Cass and Cindy, notably Cass in my poncho, but I didn't know if they wanted me putting pictures of them on my blog so I will save them for a later date if they agree.

My favorite text of the night came from Cindy's friend Lara in Chicago: "Go Mississippi State in the Liberty Bowl!"

Sweet Liberty.

Give me Liberty, or....

So much has happened in one week. Two days after Christmas I sat down to catch up on all the blogs and see how everyone's Christmases were and I read the news on Marcus' blog. It was so strange because the telephone had just rung while I was reading. I was trying to talk to the person on the phone but my mind would just not work. I just said, "wait, wait" over and over. I know Nick thought I was losing my mind. For a moment there, I did. I immediately called Marcus and spoke with him. Almost one week later and I am still in disbelief.

We were supposed to leave the next day to go to Indianola to have Christmas there. Cass and Cindy got in late on the 26th. We were having Christmas on the 28th to let them have a day of rest. Plans change. Cindy, Cass, Dean and I all wanted to be there for Mar and Lo so we had Christmas late on the 27th and then drove to Starkville on the 28th for visitation. The crowd in the little Episcopal church in Starkville was unbelievable. So many people. The Rhodes family has touched so many people. There were friends of Jan and Melvin, Lo and Mar, Lady and Matt, and Allyson and Dylan. All ages, all kinds.

Cindy got us all tickets to the Liberty Bowl so we set out for Memphis Saturday morning. We met Dad at the hotel in Southaven and immediately headed for the Liberty Bowl. That area in Memphis is quite scary. Thank goodness for Dad's GPS. We got around the traffic with ease and settled into a $20 parking lot. The game was typical MSU but satisfying in the end. We really did have a good time at the game. It was COLD but fun. I think I have developed "cowbell wrist" from ringing my cowbell so much. After the game was over we drove Dad back to his truck at the hotel and Cindy and Cass had plans of going to meet some friends downtown but instead they ended up not hearing from the friends and came back to the hotel with us. Pretty uneventful after party, but we are old, I guess.

We did get to show Cass and Cindy the areas that we are looking for houses and the schools, and so forth. The best part was riding in the car with Cass and Cindy. We all got to visit and vent on certain topics and catch up. I wish we could be together more often. I love being around them.

I feel like I have been on an emotional roller coaster the last few days. I guess that is how life is. I would like for life to take the flat delta roads for a little while now.

Merwii Christmas

Merry Christmas everyone. I hope Santa was good to you all.

As you have probably guessed Santa brought the girls a Wii. We are now going on 12 hours straight of playing the wii. My Mom and Dad and Dean's Mom even got in on the action and kicked our butts in bowling. I am not even sure why Santa went to all the trouble to bring the other gifts. I know they are feeling like Woody from Toy Story. Just sitting in the floor with no one to play with.

We had a wonderful time with Dean's family and my Mom and Dad and will be getting together with Cindy and Cass on Friday. I can't wait until they get here. Maybe it is because we are all going to Memphis on Saturday to watch our Dawgs play. Go Dawgs! We will be childless for a day and a half. What about that isn't good? Merry Christmas to us!!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas break and joyous New Year!

Old Friends

I got to thinking today. My very best friends are the ones I grew up with and graduated high school with. I have always heard that you make your lifelong friends in college. I have not found that to be true. Sure, I made some friends in college, but I really don't keep up with them that much. The only friend from nursing school that I keep up with is Lorraine. I know where she is and how to get in touch with her. I would have to ask her where to find our other classmates.

The friends I consider to be lifelong friends are the people I went to kindergarten with. I talk with them often and even have their phone numbers programmed in my cell phone. We had our 20th class reunion this fall and was it ever fun! I love being with those people. Maybe it is because they know me so well. I don't know.

I have also noticed that my sister still keeps up with the people she went to high school with. I think they have a very strong bond because they were the brightest kids in MS. MSMS students have a special bond. I think it is because they are all so intelligent and can communicate with each other on a higher level. They continue to amaze me with their intelligence.

It is amazing how much your high school experience sets the tone for the rest of your life. I work in the public school system here in Starkville and sometimes I wonder how some of these kids are ever going to make it. I will talk about that in another post though. I could tell lots of stories there.

I consider myself lucky to have had such awesome people to grow up with and share our lives. I know a lot of y'all feel the same way. Thanks for letting me share with all of you too.

Moving

How is moving going?.....it's not. Our house has been on the market since early September. We have shown it a total of 10 times. 6 in Sept., 3 in Oct., a big 0 in Nov., and 1 in Dec. I am trying to remain positive and hope for the best but it gets harder and harder. We were someones second choice. That has to be encouraging right?...whatever. I know the market is VERY slow right now and we are selling at a bad time.

It is hard being a married single parent. I have to get up at the crack of dawn to get both girls ready for school. Our schools start at a ridiculously early time...7:30 and 7:35am. We have to be out the door at 7:00am. Anyone who knows me knows that this is very difficult for me. I love to sleep!

I am the only one here who can help with all book reports, science fair, school projects, homework, etc. I am the only one who can pick up a sick child or take an injured child to the emergency room as the case was Monday night after my brilliant 10 year old tripped and fell mouth-first on to the bookcase while walking around blindfolded. She had lacerations on the inside and outside of her mouth. No stitches required---thank goodness. They used dermabond on the outer laceration and it is healing perfectly. That is some cool stuff.
So let's pray we sell the house soon. Not that I want to leave Starkville or anything because I love this town, but I am tired of being the married single parent.

I need some backup!

First Post

Well, I decided that I need to jump on the Blog bandwagon and start up my own blog. I read several blogs of my friends and my sister's friends and I really enjoy keeping up with their lives and their families. I also learn a lot from them. We will see how this goes!
